BANGKOK, 12 July 2012 – Deputy Prime Minister General Yuthasak Sasiprapa has expressed his confidence that there will be no coup d’etat after the Constitution Court passes its much anticipated ruling on the charter rewrite on Friday.

Following concerns over the Court’s deliberation on whether the attempt to amend Section 291 of the Constitution is in breach of Section 68 of the same law, the Deputy Prime Minister said the military will provide assistance in dealing with political protests once receiving a request from the police.

However, he denied the rumors saying that a Blackhawk helicopter was obtained to facilitate the peace keeping operation. He also urged political activists to express their opinions within legal limits and asked that those with different political beliefs keep their followers in different corners to prevent violence.

The Deputy Prime Minister refused to comment on the threat by the UDD protesters to block roads if the ruling is not in their favor, but he reaffirmed that the situation on Friday would not escalate into a coup d’etat.
