The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has launched a reforestation project in Mae Mo district in honor of Their Majesties the King and Queen.
Lampang provincial governor Samart Loyfa and Mae Mo Mine’s deputy governor Banpot Teerawat presided over the opening ceremony for the reforestation project under care of Mae Mo EGAT Office and in honor of Their Majesties the King and Queen on the auspicious occasions of His Majesty’s 70th anniversary of ascension to the throne and Her Majesty’s 84th birthday anniversary.
A total of 7,900 saplings of 34 plant genuses have been planted on a 46-rai plot of land in the Mae Mo Mine area. All the planted saplings will be taken care of by EGAT officials to increase green areas in the northern district which will help ensure environmental balance and alleviate air pollution in the area surrounding Mae Mo power plant.
The event was organized under the royal initiative to let local villagers coexist with the forest harmoniously and to raise the awareness among children and the general public on the conservation of natural resources.
