Pattaya residents got a reminder that rainy season isn’t near over yet as a tropical depression dumped hours of rain on the city, causing the usual flooding.

Skies opened late Sept. 11 and lasted into the early hours of the next morning, before taking a morning rush-hour break and resuming for the rest of the day.

Beach Road all but merged with the ocean as runoff poured from higher elevations to the east and down the side streets. Deep gouges were cut into the sand and sidewalks were submerged for hours.

There still was plenty of storm water left in East Pattaya, however, as Soi Khao Noi and Soi Khao Talo took on the look of white-water rapids. Roads were damaged and cars were disabled for hours.

South, Third and Sukhumvit roads also were inundated.

Social media also was flooded, but with photos of property damage and submerged sois, taken by exasperated and angry people stuck at home.

Most comments echoed how much Pattaya has supposedly spent on flood control with little apparent improvement.
