PSC Golf from The Outback Golf Bar
Monday, Sept. 12, Banyan G.C. – Stableford
A great start to our Hua Hin tour with 24 keen players taking on the fabulous course at Banyan Golf Club. After golf, Greg Hill and lovely Tuk went out of their way to give us a warm welcome at their fabulous home near the course for after golf drinks and snacks.
A few fines had already been recorded on day 1, as one of our famous Outbackers and a favorite to win didn’t make it past the ladies’ tee twice on the first hole! Also not handing in scorecards after the round was a definite fine for another couple of fellas and then there was Dennis Pelley, who ranks at the bottom pile when it comes to investing his money wisely. Said enough!
The day belonged to Sel Sel Wegner who recorded an awesome 40 points to take the 1st day lead ahead of Lloyd Landrie on 39, John Stafford on 38 and Don Lehmer, Bill Broschart and Neil Skilton all on 36.
2’s were recorded by Neil Skilton, Peter Nixon and Murray Hart.
Wednesday, Sept. 14, Springfield G.C. – Stableford
With light rain falling on the way to the course and a day of rain predicted, our group of Outbackers was lucky to finish in time before some heavy rain descended on Hua Hin.
After playing the originally planned course Palm Hills a day after as an extra day, the decision to switch to Springfield for our tour was a great choice in hindsight. Springfield was in much better condition and everyone was pleased with the way the course presented itself, although the clubhouse restaurant get bad marks (at least in my view).
In Division B, Tom Flanagan’s 33 points was good enough to land him third place, Alex Field had a good 35 points for second spot and Don Lehmer scored another good round of 37 to land the top podium position.
In the A division, John Stafford scored 37 points for third while Lloyd Landrie, with a magnificent 24 points on the back 9 just edged John on count back. Neil Skilton had another scorching 3 over 75 from the blue tees to give him 38 points and top spot today.
Neil Skilton, Sel Wegner, and Murray Hart each had a ‘2’.
Thursday, Sept. 15, Black Mountain – Stableford
A bit cruel perhaps at Black Mountain, where I had all the regulars play off the 65 markers, but being the final day with things very close at the top the course presented a fair test that way. In the end, Greg Hill finally came good and scored a great 39 points to win the A division, followed by Graham Rice. In the B division, Alex Fieldi conquered Black Mountain with a great 37 points, with a big gap to Andrew Makara on 34 in second.
Overall, things were hotly contested with Lloyd Landrie, John Stafford and Sel Wegner each finishing with only a point between them to determine this tour’s winner. Sel was the proud winner of the tour, having played consistent golf for all three days and posting 111 points in total. John was second a point behind and Lloyd took third on 109.
The next Outback organized trip to Hua Hin will be from 12-17 March 2017.
