A police checkpoint set up for a day on Second Road turned up no drugs or weapons but netted officers plenty of fines for traffic offenses.

The checkpoint, begun July 14 around 8 a.m. opposite the Montien Hotel in North Pattaya, stopped motorbike drivers and fined them for not wearing helmets or having licenses. Police said they also used the opportunity to educate foreign drivers on Thai traffic laws.

Police set up a table to collect the 500 baht fines, saying it made it more convenient for offenders to pay their fines on the spot instead of having to complete paperwork at the Pattaya Police Station.
