BANGKOK, 25 July 2012 – The Festival of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand will be held at IMPACT Exhibition and Convention Center, to promote the unity among peoples of different cultures in Thailand.
Miss Anuttama Amornvivat, Secretary to the Minister of Social Development and Human Security, announced that the Bureau of Ethnic Affairs will hold the Festival of Indigenous Peoples in Thailand during August 2-4.
The event is aimed at celebrating His Majesty the King’s 84th birthday, Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th birthday, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 60th birthday. It will be held under the theme “Happiness within the diversity of races under His Majesty’s patronage”. The Festival will show the unity existing among various groups of Thais from different races and their loyalty to the Royal Family.
Over 1,500 people from 37 indigenous groups will participate in traditional rituals. Arts and crafts and local food from the four regions of Thailand will be on sale. It will be the first time that people from as many as 37 ethnic groups in Thailand gather to perform their tribal musical shows in one place.
During the event, an MOU is expected to be signed between the Social Development and Human Security Ministry of Thailand and Vietnam’s Committee for Ethnics, to expand their technical cooperation for the improvement of ethnic minorities.
