Bangkok, July 25 2012 – Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) members have agreed on confiscating assets worth of 64.7 million baht from the Former Transport Permanent Secretary Supoj Saplom within 30 days.
Klanarong Chanthick, spokesperson of the NACC has stated that according to the investigation on Mr. Supoj regarding his earnings since having become a government official up to the year 2001, the result shows that he had earned approximate 5 million baht salary from the government and he has gained 9.6 million baht from working with private companies during 1982-1998, 1 million from special design work, and 5.5 million from bank loans, worth altogether 21 million baht.
As a result, the NACC members see that Mr. Supoj’s earning doesn’t match his total financial assets, therefore it is appropriate that 65.7 million worth of assets be confiscated, even though these assets had come before Mr. Supoj became Permanent Secretary of Transport Ministry.
Additionally, the NACC members have come to the conclusion that Mr. Supoj is unusually wealthy. His assets are accounted for nearly 65 million baht, including 17.5 million baht cash, 3 million baht Volkswagen, 10 baht-weights worth of gold which has already been confiscated, and other financial assets worth 44.2 million baht.
The NACC will pass this matter to the attorney general to file an allegation to the court in order to confiscate Mr. Supoj’s financial assets within 30 days. However, those assets rightfully acquired have been taken out of consideration.
