Thailand & Iran to join forces in war against drugs

BANGKOK, 25 July 2012  – The weekly Cabinet meeting has approved the draft MOU with Iran to strengthen both countries’ drug clampdown campaigns. 

Deputy government spokesperson Anusorn Iamsa-ad revealed that the Cabinet resolved, on Tuesday, to endorse the draft Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Thailand and Iran, which focuses on the joint cooperation in anti-drug campaigns.

The Cabinet also resolved to allow the Minister of Justice or an individual assigned by the Minister of Justice or the Secretary General of the Office of Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) to represent Thailand in the signing of the MOU.

In addition, the meeting agreed that the Ministry of Justice, the ONCB and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs be empowered to work on the amendment of any non-essential clauses of the MOU without having to seek the Cabinet’s consent.
