IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at the Links Bar

The Pattaya Golf Society visited Greenwood on Monday, 19th September, after a break of a couple of weeks, to play a stableford event on the A and B nines, which were in excellent condition with consistent greens.  All in all conditions were fine for good golf and for two golfers in particular this was just what they produced.

It was difficult to understand that the field contained many sound golfers when the two lowest handicappers on the day produced golf of an extremely high standard.  Jon Batty and Mark Lang both recorded the only birdie ‘2’s of the day early in their adventure and finished fully seven shots ahead of third placed Murray Edwards.  Ruing three birdie chances on the back nine which just stayed out, Jon Batty finished with 40 points only for his round to be eclipsed by Mark Lang who played a memorable level par round of gross 72, giving him 42 points.  What a round it was with three bogeys being matched by three birdies.

Performances like those from Mark and Jon show the potential of Pattaya’s IPGC members and long may their game continue to improve.  It was a pleasure to share the day with them.

Easy win for Wichai

Friday dawned with little prospect of a dry golf day and the news from Crystal Bay that carts were banned did not help, but the PGS still went to the course in the hope that a competition was possible.  As it turned out it stayed a completely rain-free day and a fine competition ensued.  Humidity was high, the wind was nonexistent and some of the habitual carters struggled coming to grips with the conditions.  Underfoot conditions were acceptable with soft fairways and receptive greens which were a touch slow.

Results showed low scores with Mr Len managing second place with 31 points and a splendid 37 points by Wichai Tananusorn was more than enough for the victory.  Wichai’s round was solid and a testimony to a good golfer on a course in testing conditions.  There were no birdie ‘2’s and the consolation beer went to Colin Service.

Thus ended a tough and very damp week but there were still some highlights to savour.
