Gerry ‘the Irish rover’ Hughes, playing what must surely be his favourite golf course did it again, this time with a magnificent 43 points (including two no-scoring holes on his card). Gerry was eight strokes clear of two players; Marcus Earp who himself had two no-scoring holes and Ian Jones, who would you believe it also had two no-scoring holes. In the resulting count back Marcus out gunned the unlucky Ian.
A Flight also had a 40-pointer from Welshman Phil Davies who was five clear of Mr. nice guy Garry Blackburne. The last step on the podium went to a count back between Tony Gliddon and Christen Boysen, both knotted on 33 points and when the knot was undone it was Tony who got to stand on the podium. You can guess were Christen was last seen.
Monday, Oct. 3, Greenwood A & C – Stableford
1st Marcus Earp (31) 46pts
2nd Peter Henshaw (25) 39pts
3rd Ken Hole (20) 37pts
A long drive turned out to be well worthwhile for those who made the effort as Greenwood was found to be in fine condition and the weather was not quite as hot as it has been lately. The cost to play here is also one of the best values in the area.
Marcus Earp, not satisfied with Sunday’s second place finish, put the pedal to the floor to post a man of the match brilliant 46 point masterpiece. Marcus also wins a trip to the handicap committee. Peter followed Marcus at a distance with a sound 39 points. Pay widow specialist Ken hole rounded out the podium with a steady 37 points.
Wednesday, Oct. 5, Treasure Hill – Stableford
1st Peter Henshaw (25) 37pts
2nd Jim Elphick (32) 34pts
3rd Robert Baird (32) 33pts
Wednesday was another overcast day with the rain threatening and we were very lucky to escape a complete washout by seconds. Treasure Hill to be fair was in great condition and played long on the fairway and the greens were fairly fast and true.
Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw hit form today with a man of the match 37 points to make up for Monday’s second place finish. Jimmy ‘two shots’ Elphick, who seems never to be far off the pace, was three shots adrift as he lifted the silver. Robert Baird was left to close the podium a further shot back.
Friday, Oct. 7, Burapha – Stableford
1st Kevin Rogers (10) 43 pts
2nd Ken Hole (19) 36 pts
3rd Peter Henshaw (24) 36 pts
Once again everyone was a bit nervous about today’s weather after the downpour the night before, nevertheless, a bunch of diehards and dedicated golfers left Lewiinski’s and headed to Burapha. A hearty welcome was given to the lads with ‘lift and place’ being the order of the day.
The winner of the day was our Aussie friend Kevin ‘the thunder from down under’ Rogers who carded an excellent man of the match 43 points. Kevin was seven strokes clear of a quartet of golfers; Ken Hole, Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw, Walter Baechli and Joe Guinan. Ken and Peter were welcomed to the podium in that order while Walter and Joe watched the presentation at the bar. This was Peter’s third pay window visit this week and Ken’s second.
