IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at The Links Bar

The Pattaya Golf Society visited Crystal Bay to start the week on Monday, 17th October and found a course almost empty and in reasonable condition with soft and damp fairways and greens on the C and B nines which were a little inconsistent.  However the stableford competition was comfortable enough with four groups in action.

Peter Wilson, on his return, shared the ‘2’s pot with Jim Ferris leaving Wichai Tananusorn to miss two “tap-ins” whilst attempting to convert an almost faultless “ace” into a birdie.  Farming was never this bad!

In the competition proper Wichai, Jim Ferris and Ray Cody all shared third place with 32 points, whilst Larry Slattery again made second place his own with 33 points.  The winner was Wayne Peppernell who had been bemoaning his form on the way to the course and produced 36 points to add some sense to the perpetual golf puzzle.

Kevin Pross enjoyed the non-winners’ beer and the evening closed in a sedate manner as befits the current situation.  Golf can still be enjoyable even in the saddest of times.

Burapha sees close contest

On Wednesday, 19th October the Pattaya Golf Society visited Burapha to play a stableford competition on the sumptuous A and B nines which were in splendid condition.  The day stayed dry and clear skies still could not free the air of humidity, which is a feature of golf here at the moment.

With the course still playing long scores were moderate and in third place was Aussie Wayne Peppernell with 33 points.  There were joint winners with Alan Flynn and Mr Len sharing the honours with 34 points apiece.

The ‘2’s pot was shared by Barry Moore, Alan Flynn, Ray Cody and Kevin Pross, all coming on B3, the shortest of the par threes.

After the golf the return to the Links Bar was nothing but a short run and Ron Matthews had the pleasure of the non-winners’ beer prize.

Burapha remains a treat for Pattaya golfers and conditions there are amongst the best in the province.

Boss holds on for victory

Friday 21st October saw the Pattaya Golf Society visit an empty Emerald course in Ban Chang to play a stableford competition off the white tees, with a field of four groups all keen to go at the prescribed time.  The group welcomed back some old friends and some prospective new members and a fine competition was in order on the course which was in good condition – for Emerald – with consistent greens.  Humidity was high but so also were the clouds so a dry day helped maintain the golfers’ humour.

Competition was tight with Ron Matthews and Kevin Hamilton sharing third place with 30 points.  In second on 33 was the Friday man Karl Flood, often consistent and always somewhere near the frame.  The winner was the boss Mr Len whose fine week ended with 35 points despite the expected blob on seventeen and a totally bizarre blob on the final hole.  With more than two thousand competition rounds on record in Pattaya no-one had the temerity to question whether the anchor had been thrown out and those who know the golf geezer best are well aware of his inconsistency around the green.

There were no birdie ‘2’s on the day and the cooling consolation went to non-winner Bryan Barrell on his return to the group after a couple of months away.

The week had ended in style and with Treasure Hill, Bangpra and Pattana on the horizon more good golf days are in the PGS sights.
