Accused loan shark nabbed in Takhiantia raid

Police and military officers raided the Takhiantia home of an alleged loan shark.

Banglamung officials were joined by army soldiers in the Oct. 23 operation against a house owned by Singh Satham, 37, after surveilling it for five hours, determining five armed men also were inside.

A search found evidence of 30 million baht in loans to people in 21 provinces, as well as 13 grams of marijuana, 44,000 baht in cash, luxury vehicles, jewelry and rare Buddhist amulets, police said.

Authorities accused Singh’s group of lending money illegally in faraway provinces and the surrounding area. The five men were said to be enforcers, some of whom were pictured on Facebook brandishing guns.

The five were not named, but said to all have criminal records.
