Sunday, Oct. 23, Green Valley – Stableford
A Flight
1st Kevin Hamilton (18) 43pts
2nd Kevin McEntee (12) 38pts
3rd Christian Boysen (8) 38pts
B Flight
1st Eddy Beilby (19) 37pts
2nd Salita Cheoychao (30) 37pts
3rd Peter Blackburne (19) 34pts
A good field of 22 signed up for the game and despite a slow journey to the course because of road works we arrived without too much time to spare. The weather was excellent and the golf course in very good shape, although after recent heavy rain parts of the course were wet which meant preferred lies on the fairway. Everyone got round in fairly good time and the average round was about four hours.
Big Kevin Hamilton triumphed in the senior flight with a faultless 43 man of the match points. Kevin ‘the Co. Offaly gang leader’ McEntee and Christen Boysen, who by the way is now a single figure handicapper playing off eight, went to a count back to fill the minor flight places with the luck of the Irish prevailing.
Eddy ‘the Eagle’ Beilby kept his run of good form going in B Flight as he and Salita Cheoychao were locked on 37 points and as everyone knows you never tangle with the Eagle. Peter Blackburn, who is running the golf while Marcus is in the U S of A closed the flight with a steady34 points.
Tuesday, Oct. 25, Laem Chabang – Stableford
1st Brian Jensen (25) 36pts
2nd Kevin McEntee (11) 33pts
3rd Reg McKay (14) 29pts
A small but talented group took to the road to play the favourite of many, Laem Chabang. The course was in good shape although a bit wet but it was play the ball as it lies, and although rain was always threating it stayed away.
With no player managing to better his handicap it was Brian Jensen who took the top spot and man of the match with a solid even par round. Kevin McEntee made it two pay-day visits in as many games with a steady 33 points and Scotland’s Reg McKay was as happy to see any part of the podium with his 29 points.
Wednesday, Oct. 26, Khao Kheow A & B – Stableford
1st Peter Henshaw (23) 40pts
2nd Tom Gorey (18) 40pts
3rd Kevin McEntee (11) 39pts
4th Jim Elphick (26) 37pts
Khao Kheow was the designated venue today and our 12 golfers were allocated the A & B nines. The weather was fine although sprinkles of rain fell later in the round, which was more than can be said for Pattaya which suffered a huge downpour and severe flooding.
The course was as usual in good nick and we were able to tee off well before our allotted time.
You could not fault Irishman Tom Gorey and his excellent 40 points but it was not as well distributed as that of fellow mick Peter ‘the silver surfer’ Henshaw.
The man on form Kevin McEntee made it three pay window visits this week with a fine 39 points while Jimmy ‘two shots Elphick stopped it being an all Irish rout as he closed the flight with a steady 37 points.
Friday, Oct. 28, Burapha A & B – Stableford
A Flight
1st Ian Pickles (12) 36pts
2nd Walter Baechli (15) 34pts
3rd Dominic Downey (14) 33pts
B Flight
1st Bob Fagan (22) 40pts
2nd Peter Henshaw (23) 35pts
3rd Bob Lindborg (240 35pts
We had four groups ready to play the classy Burapha and A & B were the nines allocated to us starting on A. The weather was once again good and the golf course was excellent as ever and everyone enjoyed the round, which took an average of about four hours.
B Flight provided the man of the match in the shape of Bob Fagan with a great 40 points. Bob was five strokes clear of two of the society’s long time members, Peter Henshaw and Bob ‘the Guru of Green Valley’ Lindborg, and the count back dictated that they climbed the podium steps in that order.
In the senior flight it was Ian Pickles who stood atop the podium with a solid even par round. Ian was two stokes clear of one of the most effervescent personalities, Walter Baechli, while Dominic Downey was a further stroke in arrears as he closed the flight.
