Thechapat Holabuth (seated) and driver Surasak Damrong (not shown) have been charged with drunk driving, disorderly conduct and assaulting a police officer during a highly charged stop at a Pattaya checkpoint.

Pol. Cap. Wuthikorn Prodprong and a team of police officers and volunteers were manning the checkpoint near Makro in North Pattaya when they stopped a Toyota Camry driven by Surasak Damrong, 24, and carrying passenger Thechapat Holabuth, 40.

Both men were highly intoxicated with the driver testing at twice the legal limit for alcohol.

Both men were asked to exit their vehicle, but police said Thechapat threw his arms around the neck of Pol. Cpl. Baworn Hathachote and began assaulting him.

The drunk man was handcuffed, but then began hurling abusive language. He claimed he worked for Channel 9 News and knew many high ranking police officers. He asserted that if the Pattaya officers knew who he was, they would have let him go.

Moments later, Wuthikorn’s phone rang and a man on the other end claiming to the commander of Region 2 Police tried to persuade the Pattaya cops to release the men.

The local officers remained undaunted and took the bragging drunks to jail.
