IPGC Golf from the Tara Court
Sunday, Oct. 30, Green Valley – Stableford
A Flight
1st Shaun Tracy (13) 40pts
2nd Richi Hurley (7) 38pts
3rd Declan Kelly (13) 37pts
B Flight
1st John Dearden (20) 30pts
2nd Geoff King (17) 29pts
3rd Donal McGuigan (17) 29pts
This was probably our last time to play the present layout here at Green Valley as they are supposed to be bringing in changes imminently. Again we had two flights today and there was a big contrast in the scores from each group.
In the B Flight John Dearden was very surprised to discover that he was actually the winner with only thirty points. Both Geoff King, who came second on the count back, and Donal McGuigan who came third were even more surprised to discover they were in the prizes as they both had only twenty nine points.
It was a very different story in the A Flight, Shaun Tracy has been playing really good golf over the past few weeks and has lost three shots off his handicap but again today he played even better and came out the winner with an excellent forty points. This will ensure that Shaun will lose another shot off the handicap. In second place was Richi Hurley with thirty eight points while Declan Kelly showed he wasn’t suffering from jet lag after his recent arrival as he came third with thirty seven points.
We had four ‘2’s recorded today with Joe McArdle, Russell Gilroy, Bob St Aubin and Shaun Tracy having one each.
Tuesday, Nov. 1, Mt. Shadow – Stableford
Blue Tees
1st Gerry Hannan (11) 36pts
2nd Jon Batty (7) 33pts
3rd Michael Williams (14) 32pts
White Tees
1st Frank McGowan (19) 37pts
2nd Don Everett (19) 35pts
3rd Ted Morris (15) 35pts
We were back at one of our favorite courses here in the shape of Mountain Shadow. As the course was quiet we got around quickly and finished before the rain started. To make it enjoyable for everyone we decided to play of both the blue and white tees with exactly half the players opting to play off each.
The best score of the day came from Frank McGowan off the white tees, winning with thirty seven points and to make his payday even better he slotted in a birdie ‘2’ also. Don Everett took second place with thirty five points, beating Ted Morris on a count back which went down to the last six holes.
Off the Blue tees Gerry Hannan was the winner with thirty six points, John Batty took second place with thirty three and Michael Williams was third with thirty two, plus a birdie ‘2’.
Thursday, Nov. 3, Eastern Star – Stableford
1st Joe Peters (23) 34pts
2nd Richi Hurley (7) 32pts
3rd Frank McGowan (19) 28pts
We hadn’t been here to Eastern Star for a long while and today we found the course in reasonable condition. Maybe it is because we don’t play here very often but most of us found it difficult and again the scoring wasn’t great.
Joe Peters had his first win for a long time and came out on top with thirty four points, a reasonable score for this course but which would have been better if another player hadn’t played Joe’s ball by mistake while Joe followed suit and also played a wrong ball. Richi Hurley took second place with thirty two points and Frank McGowan was third with twenty eight. We had no ‘2’s today.
