The Pattaya Golf Society (IPGC)at Rabbi’s Elephant Bar
The Pattaya Golf Society ended July with a visit to Khao Kheow on Monday, 30th to play a stableford competition over the A and C nines. Teeing off in a storm didn’t help the players concentration and it saw a three-ball abandon the day after less than two holes because of sodden fairways, bunkers and flooded greens. Miraculously within thirty minutes the fairways had dried out enough to be acceptable and greens had reverted to normal.
The course was to play very long off the yellow tees and with no run at on the fairways it was a long hitters’ day and Peter Masters and Joe Niisato shared third place with 35 points each. The winner was the consistent Dave Edwards with an excellent 37 points on his first visit to the course. Beginner’s luck? Not a bit of it as his recent history shows having already tucked the society’s June “Player of the Month” title under his belt, and well on the way to repeating the feat in July.
Dave also recorded the day’s only birdie ‘2’, on C3 to cap a remarkable day. The Booby Bevy went to visitor Dave Morris for the lowest total of the day and the Boss’s free beer draw was won by Wichai Tananusorn, for whom nothing else went right all day. Khao Kheow was a day to remember alright.
French polish at Rayong
As Friday, 3rd August was another Buddha Day the Pattaya Golf Society visited Rayong CC to play a stableford event on the course which is still recovering from green maintenance, thus making them slow and uneven.
The large field, with the addition of many returning old friends, meant that two flights were applied with the cut coming at sixteen and under and play got underway on time. In the top flight Robbie Taylor managed 32 points for third place, failing to close the gap on Seil Revels who recorded another best gross of 78 to give him 35 points for second. The winner was newest member Anthony Molan who made an instant impression with a level par 36 points.
The second flight saw Andrew Purdie post 33 points for third place, a couple behind Paul Brett who found a deserved place near the top of the table after many attempts this trip with 35 points. The flight winner was Frenchman Jean Morel who again broke par on one of his favourite tracks with an excellent 37 point return.
There were three birdie ‘2’s with Alan Duckett and Steve Keating (2) sharing the spoils. The Boss’s free beer was won by Masashi Iizumi and low scoring Dave Edwards savoured the Booby Bevy for his descent from hero to zero in a week which had seen him win two important events with sub-par scores.
Rayong on a public holiday is always cheap and cheerful. Nuff said!
