Konrad Albert Witschi, 70, was rushed to Queen Sirikit Naval Medical Center following the Nov. 24 accident at the 173rd kilometer marker. Wife Yupin Witsee, 53, sustained a spinal injury.

Witnesses told police the couple were coming out of Tesco Lotus headed toward Pattaya. It was raining and roads were slippery, which may have caused the driver to lose control before crashing into a storm drain and flipping the Honda City.
