The Tropical Golf Group

Tuesday, Nov. 22, Pattana – Stableford

We come here to Pattanan pretty often these days, it is a regular monthly stop and the staff are really friendly and give us good rates.

On this day we had a small group of players but we were soon into cars and on our way.  On arrival we noticed we were one group of seemingly many and we were asked to get to the tee as soon as we could.  Having found we were to play C & A in that order we were soon away.  The course was quite full and we were reminded that ‘High Season’ is here. Happy days!

The course itself was in quite good condition, the fairways were fine and the greens ran quick and true.  The wind got up occasionally and we had the odd spot of rain, but nothing much. In all it was a fine day.

Back early at BJ’s we were able to get onto the results.  The winner with 39 points was Geoff Bracegirdle ahead of Tom Herrington in second with 35.  In third was Landis Brooks, also with 35 points, and taking the fourth spot was Mashi Kaneta with 34 points on count back over Dave Nicholson.

Near Pins: Derek Brook, John Davis (2), Landis Brooks.

Friday, Nov. 25, Plutaluang N & W – Stableford

It had been a while since the Tropical golfers played the Navy course at Plutaluang so this Friday the gang decided to give it a visit.  Twenty-one golfers made what they thought would be a relatively quick trip south, but some folks got caught in heavy traffic on the way.  It didn’t matter as the course was quite busy and things were running a little late.

The Tropical golfers were scheduled to play the South and East course, so naturally we ended up playing North and West.  Credit goes to the staff at Navy for helping us out as the South/East courses were all backed up and we gratefully accepted the change.  So we’d be playing the Lighthouse hole after all!

The course condition was pretty good, and the greens especially were in fine shape considering all the play they get.  It’s a tough and long layout, but still enough golfers were up to the challenge to post good scores.

Andre Van Dyk (c/h 15) continued his winning ways in A-Flight (0-19) with the best score of the day, earning 37 points on a tough course.  Tom Herrington (18) followed just behind with 36 and then came Brian Parish (15) with 35.

In B-Flight (20+), Dick Warberg (20) is back in top form and carded an excellent 36 points for victory.  Mike O’Brien (21) turned in 33 points for second and Mick Coghlan (27) was happy to hear his name mentioned in third with 32 points.

Near Pins:  Mike O’Brien (2), Brian Parish, Dave Nicholson.
