Marine Police are getting tough with parking scofflaws at Bali Hai Pier, clamping the wheels of motorists who park in forbidden areas.
Department spokesman Jan Krasaesom said the crackdown follows the military’s move to evict boat trailers from the South Pattaya pier. They don’t want cars and trucks taking the vacated spaces.
Speedboat operators can enter the area between 4-10 a.m. but otherwise are not permitted to park there. The area is blocked off by metal gates. But strong-willed drivers have been opening the gates and parking inside anyway.
Exceptions are made for emergencies and for the disabled.
Wheels are being clamped and drivers fined 100 to 2,000 baht per infraction.
Those needing to park at Bali Hai are urged to use the automated parking garage next to the jetty.
