RANONG, Aug 22 – Thailand and Myanmar are cooperating to open anti-human trafficking centres later this month.

Ranong Governor Peerasak Hinmuangkao said that human trafficking is a long-standing problem and an international crime that needs to be resolved urgently.

The border province of Ranong has been used as a transit site for human trafficking rings, he said. The Thai government has paid attention to the problem and has vowed to tackle it.

An operations centre to prevent and crack down on human trafficking in Ranong and an Anti-Trafficking Task Forces (ATTF) program in Myanmar’s Koh Song will open new Thai-Myanmar anti- human trafficking border cooperative centres in Koh Song on Aug 30 and at the Ranong immigration checkpoint on Aug 31.

A bilateral meeting will help forge cooperation to fight human trafficking along the border.
