IPGC Pattaya Golf Society at the Links Bar
Six months ago Bangpra was in very poor condition but it’s back to its former glory again as the Pattaya Golf Society discovered as it called there to play a stableford event on Tuesday, 20th December. Fairways were lush and greens were quick and a good day was in store.
Scoring was tough on a humid day with little wind and sharing third place were Huw Phillips and Matt Davies with 30 points. In second was Peter Wilson, again showing his consistency with 34 points. The winner for the umpteenth time this trip was Masa Takano, in the form of his life. His 35 points belied the quality of his game at present and there was relief when the group found out it was Masa’s final round this trip. He leaves with the best wishes of the group and we hope to see him again soon, albeit with thoughts of how one stops the Japanese juggernaut!
Tony Guest achieved the only ‘2’ of the day, one the seventeenth and Helene Lindberg enjoyed her consolation beer when the draw was made later.
It’s good to have Bangpra back to its best again and more enjoyable days are guaranteed in the next few months.
No festive cheer at Treasure Hill
Treasure Hill, what a test for golfers with its tight fairways, deep lateral water hazards and low hanging trees. The Pattaya Golf Society visited the course on Thursday, 22nd December to play a stableford competition from the white tees, all 6700 yards of it! The field was divided into two flights with the cut at sixteen and under.
A “Masa free” competition gave an opportunity to the field to come up with something special to end the year, but the course was bearing its teeth and there was no festive spirit on offer. It was a day when golfers got what they deserved.
In the second flight Larry Gibb came in with 27 points for third place whilst John Holmes and Mike Wilsher shared the win with 28 points. In the top flight Karl Flood claimed third place with his 27 points whilst the win was shared by Peter Wilson and Dave Edwards with 31 points each.
There were no ‘2’s as three of the par threes approached 200 yards in length and the short sixth measured almost thirty yards longer than normal. Did I say it was a tough day?
Back at The Links the presentation saw Matt Davies receive the non-winners’ beer and the food as always was very welcome after a tough slog at Treasure Hill.
