Crown Prince and Princess Srirasm visit Klong Phra Pimol

NAKHON PATHOM, 24 August 2012  – His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm have visited the Phra Pimol Canal in NakhonPathom to check up on the readiness of flood prevention.

Khlong Phra Pimol water distribution and maintenance project was undertaken by the government in order to prevent the repetition of last year’s devastating flood.

Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, cabinet members, high ranking military and police officers, the Nakhon Pathom Governor, and the locals were on hand to welcome Their Royal Highnesses.

Concerned over the Thai people’s well-being, His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn and Her Royal Highness Princess Srirasm yesterday made a trip to the Klong Phra Pimol Canal to inspect the project progress and get first-hand information on the capacity of the canal to drain out water.

Since the Phra Pimol canal is the last barrier to stop water from flowing into Bangkok, Thailand’s main economic zone, His Royal Highness has emphasized on the importance of the Phra Pimol Canal’s water management capacity and the project’s flood prevention measures.

The Phra Pimol Canal is capable of draining out 50 cubic meters of water per second. In time of fllood, around 3 million cubic meters of water per day will be pumped out to the Tha Chin River, while 7 million cubic meters per day will be drained into the Chao Phraya River
