Nothing lasts forever just ask all those famous pop and film stars who have passed away during 2016 leaving us all with just the memories. Now it is time for me to say goodbye and I must admit I am a little sad as I have enjoyed writing my golf reports for the TRGG this last five years. But time waits for no man and I have things still to do before I pass into my dotage. I should, however, like to thank all my readers for their support and kind words and now it is time to hand over to someone who I am sure will keep up with the tradition of taking the rise out of our many winning golfers in a humorous way of course. The Christmas festivities continued for the TRGG on Monday with a trip over to Greenwood (A and B courses). A really good turnout, some still no doubt nursing the traditional hangover, set about taking apart this course which always plays long due to the lush fairways. It appears from the scores returned that some golfers on the day, dare I say, found it easy going.
In Division 1 scratch golfer Ryan Thomas found everything to his liking and once again rattled up another amazing score. His 40pts won the day but he was pushed all the way by Paul Stanton who finished one shot behind on 39. Another of our good steady golfers Mike Sanders played to his handicap and finished third.
In Division 2 Ted Senior, who has recently had a return to form after a very quiet year, did it again and won with his 39pts. John O’Donoghue, who has definitely had a very good year, chuffed into second place and Scotland’s Alastair Anderson, just warming up for Hogmanay, took third place.
Tuesday, Dec. 27, Burapha – Stableford

On Tuesday at Burapha (A and B courses), Sir Norman Cheetham geared up for his starring role as Pantomime Dame Widow Twanky in Aladdin by rubbing his magic lantern and bashing off another 36pts to win the day on count back from Hiro Tauchi who will be playing Aladdin. Good old AJ Arnold Jones, the man with the real Texas drawl, stepped up to the plate and hit a home run to take third place.
Wednesday, Dec. 28, Parichat – Stableford

The TRGG decided it was time to go and lose a few golf balls with another trip over to Parichat on Wednesday. The course where golf balls go to die lived up to its reputation and despite there being two divisions nobody bettered their handicap.
In Division 1 Barry Wood and Mike Rushant fought it out eye to eye, or as Barry is a foot taller than Mike more like eye to navel. This time Mike blinked first and had to settle for second place. John Nicholas finished four shots behind the two leaders and took third.
Lawrence Lee took top spot in Division 2 with just 34pts. Billy Allan, with a fresh stock of balls after his last visit to Parichat, managed to keep most of them on the straight and narrow to defeat Sir Norman after yet another count back.
Thursday, Dec. 29, Green Valley – Stableford

On Thursday at Green Valley it was once again the Thomas show, with young Ryan giving no quarter to the other competitors and once again leaving them all for dead. His 36pts was once again the best day’s score over two divisions. Tomo Taniguchi finished second to Ryan in Division 1, with John Dean filling third spot.
In Division 2 it was once again star billing for Sir Norman Cheetham. After yet another count back Norman pipped AJ Arnold Jones to the post. Rob Herald chased them all the way but finished a shot behind to take third.
Friday, Dec. 30, At. Andrews – Stableford
1st Ted Senior (18) 40pts
2nd Arnold Jones 17) 38pts
3rd Paul Rippin (20) 35pts
The TRGG brought the golfing year of 2016 to a close with a trip over to St Andrews, Rayong of course. It was perhaps very apt that Old Father Time himself, the one and only Father Ted Senior, should claim the day. His 40pts brought back all our yesterdays to old Ted and with a crafty chuckle he walked off with the final pot of the year. He was followed home by AJ Arnold Jones, still spitting and cursing on his chewed cigar after losing out to Widow Twanky the day before, and finally third place went Paul Rippin.
