Chiang Mai, Phichit on alert for deluge

CHIANG MAI, Sept 3 – Several districts in this northern province have been on alert since early Monday morning for possible floods due to heavy downpours.

Disaster Prevention and Relief officials in the province reported that a bridge and roads in a village of Mae-on district were damaged by floods, measured at some 135mm, after a heavy rainfall from Sunday night to early Monday morning.  A relief team was dispatched to help villagers.

In Mae-ai district, the volume of rainfall was measured 128.8mm and a landslide was reported in Santisuk village. Residents in five districts–Fang, Chiang Dao, Prao, Mae Wang and Hang Dong–were warned to be on a 24-hour alert after heavy rainfalls in the North.

In another northern province of Pichit, residents in four districts near Phetchabun mountain range were instructed to be prepared for possible forest deluges and soil slides.

Relief officials and equipment have been ready to provide assistance to residents in Sak Lek, Wangsaipoon, Nap Klor and Dong Charoen in case of disaster.
