Dutch tourist dies on board QR842 flight to Phuket early today

A 89-year-old Dutch tourist died on board a Qatar Airways’ Airbus plane from Doha to Phuket this morning.

He was later identified as Mr Jean Gustave Gruter.

According to Thalang police in Phuket, the unconscious man was rushed to Thalang hospital immediately after Flight QR 842 from Doha landed at Phuket International Airport at about 6.10am Wednesday.

Airport authorities were earlier told by the Qatar Airways that a passenger was found unconsciously in the toilet at about 03.20am while the Airbus 340 plane was on the way to Phuket.Immediately after landing, standby ambulance later rushed him to Thalang hospital.

But he was suspected to have died on board before arriving at the airport.

However his body was rushed to Thalang hospital for autopsy.

Thalang police said an autopsy would be conducted to find the cause of his death.
Friends and family members who also came with him on the flight were also at hospital to give information.

Police said preliminary examination showed no traces of bruises. He was suspected to have died from old-aged chronic sickness.
