Cafe Kronborg played the easily accessible Pattaya Country Club on Monday, only a quick 35 minute journey door to door.  We arrived early to what was a very busy course and there was no chance of an early start, as sometimes happens.

The pins had been put in places which made for difficult putting, especially on the front nine, and many a three-putt slowed our groups down.  There were 2 flights, with the A flight 0 to 22 and the B flight 23 and above.

The A Flight winner was Kenneth Madsen with 38 points, beating Carole Kubicki into second place on a count back (22-21).  Brian Gabe was third with 36 points and Ronnie Ratte took fourth with 35 points, beating Kai Aabling on count back with 19 points versus Kai’s 14.

In B Flight, Svend Gaarde played his last round before returning to Denmark and took pole position with a sterling 40 points, the best of the day.  A big cheer went up when it was announced that Dave Richardson had at last come out of the doldrums to take second place with 35 points and a countback of 19 points over Gordon Clegg’s 15.  To finish the day of the count backs, two players had 33 points and Torben Sorensen triumphed with 17 points on the back to claim fourth spot, beating Kurt Sandgaard who only had 15.

Thursday, Feb. 2, Silky Oak – 4P-Scramble

Cafe Kronborg held its second scramble competition of the year at Silky Oak on Thursday.  We decided to shake things up even more by having a blind draw at the start of the day to pick the teams of 4 people, with 2 from the A flight and 2 from the B flight.  This worked out well, with only one shot difference between the lowest and highest rated team.

Again it was a tight competition, with only one group breaking net 60 and less than 7 shots separating the remaining groups.

The winning team was the foursome of Richard Kubicki, Ronnie Ratte, Fred Tam and Thorbjorn Asmundsson with a superb net 55.9.  Their round consisted of 11 pars and 7 birdies and each member of the team did their bit.  Ronnie was determined the team wouldn’t make a bogey and they didn’t.

In second place with a solid 61.0 was the quartet of Henning Olsen, Kenneth Madsen, Jan Badura and Gordon Clegg.

It was a fun day enjoyed by all and we plan to make the scramble competitions a regular feature.

Near Pins: No.3 Richard Kubicki, No.6 Kai Aabling, No.8 Richard Kubicki, No.14 Ronnie Ratte, No.16 Dave Richardson.
