More than 500 Chonburi students competed in poetry, calligraphy and other traditional arts at the Cultural Arts Festival of Induced Values and Social Sustainability.

Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai opened the Ministry of Culture-organized event at Yai Intaram Temple Feb. 9. The ministry organized the festival to reinforce the “12 values of Thais” designated by the junta, such as patriotism, religion, the monarchy, and a sufficiency economy.

Primary, secondary and university students participated in the event in activities centered around traditional arts, such as poetry, calligraphy, drawing, essay writing, public speaking, and reciting Thai proverbs and aphorisms.

Ministry representative Samard Tiengpoonwong said the event was intended to promote the regeneration of cultural traditions and customs.

Pakarathorn said the festival allowed the public a chance to come together and preserve their cultural heritage and strengthen the social standards defined by the government to preserve the identity of Thailand, especially the Thai language and cultural arts.  (CPRD)
