A large high season field turned out from Lewiinski’s and Collins’s Golf Bar regular Sunday bash.  The course was in fine condition and rain threatened all day but did not materialize.

Pay-window regular Aiden Murray and Sandor Chapo were co-men of the match as they posted joint best scores of 41 points in C Flight and A Flight respectively.  Aiden was followed by everyone’s favorite, Colin ‘the Donkey’ Davis whose bid for the third podium slot was nearly lost, save for a beneficial count back over ‘thunder from down under’ Gabriel Enright.

Sandor was three clear of fellow flight friend Sakai Yasuo while Andy Kelleher and Andy Leach went head to head in a count back after both shot even par rounds.  When the divots had settled it was Aussie star Kelleher who joined Sandor and Sakai on the podium.

The laurels in B Flight went to the consistent Ian Pickles with a solid 40 points.  The man riding a purple patch JP Maffray lifted the silver a stroke adrift, leaving the steady Ajit Amin to tidy up the flight.

Monday, Feb. 6, Pattavia – Stableford

A Flight

1st Bob Stokes (17) 35pts

2nd Peter Wilson (9) 35pts

3rd David Dunne (21) 33pts

B Flight

1st Pat Feeney (27) 39pts

2nd Sean Sodden (20) 37pts

3rd Jack Jackson (22) 37pts

Once again another large group gathered for the trip to play the tricky Pattiva.  This required the formation of two flights and we played from the white tees.  The course was in fine condition with the greens playing very fast – I think someone must have upset the head groundsman as all the pins were on slopes.

B Flight handled the conditions best as they provided the man of the match in Ireland’s Pat Feeney with a fine 39 points.  Second and third places were decided by a count back with both Sean Sodden and Jack Jackson returning with 37 points, Sean edging David on the back-nine 19-17.

The winner of A Flight was Bob Stokes with 35 points, knocking Peter Wilson into second on count back 23-19.  This left David Dunne to round out the flight with 33 points.

Near Pins: Sean Sodden, Peter Wilson, David Dunne, Robert Collis.

Long Putts: Murray Edwards.

Wednesday, Feb. 8, Bangpra – Stableford

A Flight

1st John Kelly (16) 35pts

2nd Pat Regan (17) 34pts

3rd Gordon Nelson (14) 33pts

B Flight

1st Henr Braak (23) 38pts

2nd Barry Oats (23) 34pts

3rd Shat Mitchel (21) 33pts

Near Pins: Pat Regan, Barry Oats, Frank O’Hara.

A good crowd turned out to take on the always tough Bangpra with its resident monkeys.  The course was in fine condition and the greens were exceptionally fast, resulting in a day when only one man bettered his handicap.

That man was B Flight’s Henr Braak with a fine 38 points that also took the match honours.  Henr was four strokes clear of Barry Oats as Shay Mitchel closed the flight a further shot back.

John Kelly took the top podium spot in A Flight with a sound 35 points and was followed up the podium steps by Co. Dublin’s favourite son Pat Regan with 34.  Gordon Nelson took the third step of the podium with 33 points.

In line with the overall difficulty of the game no person managed to stay on the par-3 second hole green.

Friday, Feb. 10, Plutaluang – Stableford

A Flight

1st Ludovic Henninot (16) 38pts

2nd Mark Wood (10) 38pts

C Flight

1st Tom Morrisroe (25) 34pts

2nd Harry Davis (25) 32pts

3rd Mogen Jenson (39) 32pts

Near Pins: Ludovic Henninot, Steve Parker, Tip Briney and Mark Wood.

Once again the field was nearly up to full strength with a very reasonably priced trip to Plutaluang Navy golf course where they really appreciate the support of the local golf groups and give good value in return – a fact well taken by the local golf groups in both high and low season.

Tip Briney had the best score of the day with a B Flight winning 40 points and was two strokes clear of Stuart Kido and a further shot clear of Hank Terbraak.

Ludovic Henninot pleaded with the organizers to play with someone he actually liked and made the switch worthwhile as he took the top spot in A Flight on count back from Aberdeen’s favourite son Mark Wood, both tied on 38 points.  Dermot Egan took the bronze spot with a solid even par round.

The C Flight players found the going tough as Tom Morrisroe took the flight honours with 34 points.  Tom was two strokes clear of the tandem of Harry Davis and Mogen Jenson Harry, the scales of justice tipping in Harry’s favour 18-17.
