IPGC Pattaya Golf Society
On Tuesday, 14th February – Valentines’s Day no less – the Pattaya Golf Society golfers from the Links Bar left for the short trip to Bangpra, hearts a-flutter at the prospect of some quality time on a quality golf course. Madame Bangpra did not disappoint as she was wearing her best smile and was set up for some sporting action.
A quality field matched the occasion and Jim Ferris caressed 37 points from the course to take third place. Peter Wilson’s best gross figures (78) took second place with 38 points and Michael Palleson showed touch and feel to carouse 40 points for the win.
Steve Evans and John Malet de Carteret hit the sweet spot with their ‘2’s on the eighth and seventeenth holes respectively and even the senior member in the field, Aussie Alan Walker, enjoyed some relief with a cool consolation beer back at the bar.
It had been a day to savour at Bangpra and some may say it was the best Valentine’s Day action they would see this year. Golf does that to one!
Treasure Hill? Elementary Holmes
The Pattaya Links Golf Society travelled up route 331 to play a stableford round at Treasure Hill, which was in quite good condition but needs some water as fairways were hard in parts. The great deal currently on offer makes up for any blemishes however and the group took to the tee determined to probe the mysteries of the tough course. Three “no shows” on the morning left a large single flight which played from the white tees which were well forward in some cases.
As always, accuracy is essential at Treasure Hill and John Malet de Carteret showed just that as he joined low markers Peter Wilson and Bryan Dore in a share of second place with 31 points. The winner started his round making sure everyone knew his choice of tee was not the one being used but his game was effective enough to win by five points, a large margin by any measure. Well done John Holmes on your level par 36 points!
Mike Firkin sponsored near pins and these were won by Peter Wilson (2), Dave Moriarty (6), Bryan Dore (13) and Mike King (17) and PJ Mitchell shared the ‘2’s pot with John Holmes after their efforts on six and thirteen respectively
Treasure Hill was as tough as its reputation but it’s always a fine challenge and getting within a personal buffer zone is always a prime motivation on a visit up the 331.
