Surat Thani provincial police chief has ordered police in the province, especially on Koh Tao island, to look for a female Russian tourist who has gone missing for about two weeks.
According to Samui Time Online, 23-year old Ms Valentina Novozhyonova checked into Koh Tao hostel on February 11 and was due to check out on February 16. However, she didn’t show up to check out on schedule and, after waiting a few more days, the hostel manager decided to open her room and found all her belongings, including her passport and smart phone, were still intact.
A Russian man, identified as Sergey Busagin, eventually lodged a complaint with Koh Tao police to look for Ms Novozhyonova. The hostel manager, Mr Sitthiporn Pathaveesrisutha, also filed a complaint with the police in Koh Tao.
Pol Maj-Gen Apichart Boonsrirote, Surat Thani provincial police commander, said he had assigned Pol Lt-Col Wittaya Pitak, a technological specialist to check all the surveillance cameras around the hostel and on the island to find out the location where she was last seen by the CCTV.
Koh Tao police have also been sent to inspect the Russian girl’s room to check her smartphone to find out whom she contacted before her missing. Police also asked for a list of all the hostel’s customers.
