Officials from five southern provinces visited the Soi Korphai Community to study its award-winning drug-prevention program.
President Wirat Joyjinda welcomed on Feb. 27 provincial administrators from Narathiwat, Songkhla, Pattani, Yala and Satun who wanted to learn about the community’s program to build a strong and stable village that is free of drugs.
Wirat said that, thanks to funding provided by the royal Mother of the Land program, the community has been able to conduct a number of projects and campaigns to fight drugs with the support of local police.
The projects helped residents in various ways, including job training, sports, recreation and more, which made the Soi Korphai Community a case study in how a “red zone” can be transformed into a drug-free neighborhood.
One such project is a neighborhood watch that has residents keep an eye on local streets, which led the arrest of several drug dealers. Other projects included education on drugs and its hazards, as well as the penalties if users are caught.
