Fourteen golfers headed out to Silky Oak on a sunny morning. The conditions were perfect with little wind about and it seemed set for good scoring, especially as we were playing off the white tees.
Only one division today and it was won by Jayson Schembri, who has been in good form recently. He came in with a 42 point score and claimed to have not made a decent putt. It was still good enough to win by 4 points though!
Coming in second was someone else who apparently had trouble with the flat stick, newcomer Reid Shetall, a plastic surgeon working in Cambodia who once earned a player’s card on the Malaysian PGA Tour and had played professional golf there. Reid scored 38 points to finish one ahead of Kevin Smith in third spot who had his best round since he has been here and edged Dave Maw on a count back.

It was just under 20 golfers that chose to take that journey to Crystal Bay on Thursday, one of the favorite courses for the Growling Swan golfers. The weather conditions were on our side, with cloud cover and a slight breeze making the day rather pleasant. The course was in good nick with the greens playing true.
We played C and A nines in that order (A nine was used for the count-backs), and playing from the yellow tees reflected in the scores that were registered.
It turned out to be the Mike John’s show today as he returned a ‘very tidy’ 49 points (a new record for The Growling Swan). What more can be said. Coming in second via the count back system was Alex Field, just edging out Geoff Bracegirdle while Andrew Allen took the final spot on the podium.
Mike Johns gave up his long putt as Tony Fay failed to mark his putt that was a lot further away. A fine sporting gesture, well done Mike!
