BANGKOK, (NNT) – The Department of Fisheries has required businesses involved in the logistics and storage of marine life to register their vessels, as part of nationwide reforms of the fishing industry.
The 2015 Fisheries Act has identified marine life transportation as prone to illegal fishing activities. Transportation and storage vessels are therefore required to be registered with the Department of Fisheries and to install tracking devices, in order for their activities to be logged by Port In – Port Out (PIPO) Controlling Centers.
Businesses can register their vessels at their provincial fisheries offices. Fines for noncompliance range from 10,000 baht to 25 million baht, depending on the size of the vessel.
