Los Angeles (AP) – Los Angeles police are looking to throw shade at the thieves behind a million-dollar makeup heist. The LAPD said Thursday that it’s investigating after $4.5 million worth of eye shadow was stolen from a cosmetics warehouse in the city. They say the theft occurred between Jan. 28 and Jan. 30 at a warehouse in Los Angeles that houses Anastasia Beverly Hills products. Police believe the suspects cut a hole in the roof of the warehouse and made off with 100,000 packages of the beauty company’s “Modern Renaissance” eye shadow. Police estimated the cosmetics were worth about $4.5 million. A message left Thursday evening at Anastasia’s corporate office wasn’t immediately returned.
Hudson Valley couple claims $10M jackpot from scratch-off
Poughkeepsie, N.Y. (AP) – A decision to invest $180 in six scratch-off lottery tickets resulted in a $10 million windfall for a New York state couple. James and Sylvia Silverance, of Poughkeepsie, were introduced Thursday as the winners of the New York lottery’s special 50th anniversary “10,000,000 Cash” instant game, the single largest cash prize for scratch-offs in the state lottery’s history. The 50-year-old James, who works for an elevator company, put $125 from previous lottery winnings toward six of the $30 scratch-off tickets he bought in January at a convenience store near the couple’s home. His 53-year-old wife scratched off the ticket with the word “jackpot.” The couple chose to split the winnings, with each getting a check totaling $3.31 million after taxes. They said they’ll use part of the jackpot for the education of their four sons aged 18 to 21.
Galloping moose surprises snowboarder on Colorado run
Breckenridge, Colo. (AP) – A moose on the loose caught several skiers and snowboarders by surprise as it galloped headlong down a run at Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado. Cheri Luther was snowboarding Friday when she saw the moose approaching, and she shot video < https://www.instagram.com/p/BRdxYSkDcGo/?hl=en> of the large animal coming within feet of her. Luther, who kept snowboarding, is heard saying, “Oh, my God, I don’t know where to go” before screaming as the moose runs by her. Resort officials say no one was hurt, and the encounter is a good reminder that skiers and snowboarders share the mountain with wildlife. In late December, a rare lynx strolled nonchalantly across the Purgatory resort in southwestern Colorado, walking through a crowd of skiers and snowboarders who stopped to take videos.
Taco truck serves highway lunch for stranded Seattle drivers
Seattle (AP) – A taco truck that became stranded in a massive Seattle traffic jam came to the rescue of hungry drivers by opening up and serving lunch on the interstate. A tanker truck carrying propane rolled over on Seattle’s Interstate 5 on Monday morning, shutting area roads for about eight hours amid concerns about a hazardous materials spill. While waiting in the jam, Rachel McQuade tells <Italics> The Seattle Times <Italics> she spotted someone walking back to her car with a to-go box of food. She says she then headed over to the Tacos El Tajin truck herself and ordered two steak and two chicken tacos for her husband. El Tajin owner Thomas Lopez tells the newspaper that he and his employees “are ready to serve food, everywhere.”
4-year-old takes flight amid high winds in Cleveland area
Lyndhurst, Ohio (AP) – High winds that blew through the Cleveland area knocked a little girl off her feet, literally. Brittany Gardner, posted a video on Facebook <https://www.facebook.com/brittanygardner11/videos/10211952487671221/> of her 4-year-old daughter, Madison, opening the storm door to a home on Wednesday only to be blown off the steps. She is seen desperately clinging to the door handle while her mom runs to her rescue. Gardner tells WJW-TV that Madison held on to the door handle until she came to take her down. She says her little girl “is totally OK.” The mom had some fun with it, setting her Facebook video to the tune of Frank Sinatra’s “Come Fly With Me.” It had been viewed more than 300,000 times as of early Friday.
