Bangkok Hospital Pattaya brought some early Thai New Year’s cheer to patients with free “lucky” sweets.
Dr. Seeharach Lohachitranont oversaw the April 5 distribution of Songkran candies to 200 patients. It’s part of a regular tradition of the hospital to give gifts to patients on various holidays, he said.
The auspicious traditional sweets have various meanings, Seeharach said. For example, “Ja Mongkut” candy represents moving up in life while “Thong Yod” sweets bring luck to make money and “Saney Jan” is charming like the moon.
The doctor said gifts and holiday commemorations raise the morale of patients who may be feeling down due to illness and hospitalization.
