Gov. Pakarathorn Thienchai chaired an April 21 meeting on developing production and manpower to have the qualities and abilities needed for the EEC, a project in which the government is investing billions of baht on infrastructure, urban development and industry to make the three provinces a hub for Southeast Asian manufacturing and logistics.

The meeting was a follow-up to a March workshop of 1,000 educators to develop integrated programs to train employees in key industries: automotive, smart electronics, medical tourism, agriculture, biotechnology, robotics, aviation, logistics, biofuel and medical industries.

At this month’s session, private-sector attendees suggested Chonburi should focus on the auto, electronics and tourism sectors while also developing employees for “future” industries, such as robotics, biofuels and medical.

Pakarathorn said the eastern region has 33 vocational schools divided into eight public schools, 24 private schools, and one school subsidiary local organization, supporting 48,000 students.

Chonburi’s education plan has four goals: increase the number of vocational students, improve graduate quality, promote participation of all sectors in education, and improve management of vocational schools. (CPRD)
