The Pattaya City Council approved an 885 million baht budget for flood control and wastewater treatment projects for next year.
The funds were earmarked for city use earlier this year by the Office of Natural Resources and Environmental Policy and Planning at the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. They will be used from 2013 to 2014 by the Pattaya Sanitation Department for construction of new facilities in Pattaya and Naklua.

The projects will target neighborhoods such as Krathinglai in Naklua and Kasemsuwanin in central Pattaya where canals and flood-control pipelines have proved insufficient.
Wastewater levels also are rising, with more than 75,000 cu. meters of water in the system each day. Additional pumps and treatment equipment are needed, Sanitation Department officials said.
