Students gather round to learn how to protect themselves.

Neighborhood President Wirat Joyjinda opened the April 23 lessons, which were aimed at giving youths something productive to do in their free time as well as teaching them self-defense tactics.

The lessons were sponsored by the World Vision Foundation of Thailand, police and the Big C retail chain. Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. Janna Sornoun served as lead instructor.

Janna spoke on the dangers that lurk in dark streets and how kids should be taught techniques of how to use Muay Thai to defend themselves during desperate situations.

The youths were taught how to use their fists, elbows and knees by a well-known Muay Thai group called Venom. They were shown how to avoid being put in such dangerous situations and given lessons on how to use social media properly so as not to provoke violent incidents.
Police also listed the punishments and the dangers of drug use.
