Sunday, April 30, Silky Oak – Stableford

We had a slightly later tee time today (9.30am), with 21 players and 20 in the comp.  The course and the weather were looking good so 3 x 3-balls & 3 x 4-balls teed it up and off we went.

Ian Pickles got off to a flyer with 22 points on the front nine but a single blob on the inward half brought him back to reality and he finished on 39 point in total, still good enough to take the win in A Flight.  Mike Sweeny was one point back in second place and Gary Emmett was third with an even par 36.

John Deaden took B flight with a fine 39 points, just one ahead of Frank Tordeur in second place while Jez Lees placed third with 37.

The near pins were claimed by Ian Jones, Pete Godfrey, Jorn Finnerup, Wayne Harman and Ian Pickles.

Friday, May 5, Crystal Bay B & C – Stableford

After a stormy night 12 hardy souls turned up at Soi Buakhao for the trip to Crystal Bay, but 2 of our Aussie cousins looked at the sky and said they were going back to bed.

The rest of us set off and as soon as we got on the motorway the skies started to lighten and it turned out to be a perfect day for golf.  Once at the course it was found to be in fine condition and the greens were soft and holding with putting true.

‘The Donkey’ (Colin Davis) came out of his recent slump and putted like god to post 40 points to take the win while close behind was Mick Coghlan on 37, beating Fred Birch on the back-9 with 19 points to Fred’s 18.

Guido and Mick claimed the near pins and Colin the longest putt.
