BANGKOK, Oct 10 – A Thailand-Vietnam joint cabinet meeting scheduled for October 27 will mainly deal with key economic issues, according to Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul.
The agenda to be considered relate to rice, fisheries, security, cooperation in tackling human trafficking and the promotion of education and culture such as teaching Vietnamese in Thailand, the minister said.
The two countries will also discuss rice development techniques as both are major world rice exporters, he said.
The two countries’ leaders will hold bilateral talks and a news conference will be held after the meeting, Mr Surapong said.
“The (idea of a) joint cabinet meeting with a neighbouring country was initiated during the Thaksin Shinawatra administration and has been suspended for eight years,” he said.
“Following Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra’s recent trip to Vietnam, the two leaders agreed to resume the two countries’ joint cabinet meeting, hosted by Vietnam,” the Thai foreign minister said.
