As the high season draws nearer there appears to be even less players to fill the many available tee times, but perhaps that is just a result of the extremely bad weather forecasts of late and not the financial hardships in other parts of the world that are affecting those who usually visit the Pattaya area. And in view of the low numbers, maybe the plans of some of the East Coast association to increase the green fees and push most of the courses into compulsory carts will need to be put on hold for the foreseeable future.

Lets us hope for the sake of the local golfers, who number many hundreds and that still play some times, that eventually some sense will prevail before the area sees the same results as in Spain and Portugal which helped to start the exodus to Asia back in the late nineties.
For sure many of the usual players were not to be seen as almost every morning opened with rain following a heavy overnight downfall, but the groups from Soi 13 were still active although rather smaller than normal for the time of year.
Bob Webb strode back into town to claim the win off the white tees which had been selected on Monday due to the amount of water around the course and together with the ‘lift and place’ local rule ensured that the scores were well below the standard, ensuring that the CSS for the day reduced to 70.
Seppo Sadeharju continued to enjoy his recent run of form following his hole in one with a two under return that took second place ahead of a count back for third that Phillip Cass won with a better 19 to 15 as Yasuo Suzuki could muster just 15 after a very promising front nine. Alwyne Burley rounded out the podium with a two over return.
There were no 2’s in either division.
Before the presentations were made there were welcome backs for Yasuo Suzuki and Bob Webb together with a farewell for Phillip Cass.

Friday, Oct. 5, The Emerald – Stableford

After sitting around looking at the rain beating down over the swimming pool for nearly an hour, the skies cleared and the group took off for the course under almost clear skies and they were greeted with a course that was undergoing some renovation, especially in front of many of the greens. But with the areas clearly defined as GUR, and ‘lift and place’ in the fairways in effect, the day’s round was very pleasurable as the skies remained clear until everyone had returned to Pattaya for the prize giving.
Joe Niisato had a very good back nine to claim another win after ending the front half with just three points on the last three holes but recovering to finish strongly and take the top spot by a single point from Yasuo Suzuki, who this time won the count back over Erik Donnestad with a superior 19 to 16, which left Ole Stamnes in fourth another point further behind.
Once again there were no 2’s in either division.
Back at the Haven there were welcome backs for Frank Dunstan, Gaute Moen, Ole Stamnes and Erik Donnestad.
