Sunday, May 14, Burapha – Stableford

After an overnight deluge, 11 outbackers set sail for Burapha with no great expectation of playing golf.  All were pleasantly surprised however as the course was perfectly dry and no problem to play on.

There was just one flight and the winner was Bob Lindborg with 41 points, no doubt basking in the glory of his football team winning the championship the previous weekend.  Second place went to Kim Damboise with a very creditable 39 points and in third, losing on a count back to Kim, was Peter Stonebridge.

There was only one ‘2’, coming from Bob Finley.

Wednesday, May 17, Greenwood – Stableford

13 brave soldiers punched their way up the 331 in appalling weather, this in the hope that the skies cleared before tee off, which they did, although we had 3 rain delays of about 15 minutes each and the final half dozen holes were played in heavy rain.  The fairways were saturated, which often meant playing these holes from where the ball lied, but remarkably the greens had no casual water and putted true.  All in all, the round took 6 hours and we were the only players on the course.

There is not a handicap system which takes into account these playing conditions, which makes the winner’s score even more remarkable.  John (Kenny) Hoddy took the plaudits with an amazing 40 points.  Second with 35 points was Roy Steinbach, who sank a 35ft putt on the last for par, third went to Thierry Themime with 34 points and Neil Lavery completed the podium with 32.

Friday, May 19, Green Valley – Medal

Green Valley had a competition starting midday and apparently is closed for the next two Fridays.  After heavy negotiations it was agreed that the Outback could have a shotgun start at 8am, and this in itself limited the field to 20 players.  All got around in a timely fashion and did not interfere with the Green Valley comp.

There were only 2 prize places because of the small field and in second was Sugar Ray Handford with a very commendable net 67.  The top prize went to Sunanta (Eng) Cotterill with a magnificent net 64 (gross 85).  Well done Eng!

There were three ‘2’s, coming from John Stafford, Peter Nixon and Bob Mattes.
