Pattaya United 4, Bangkok Glass FC 2
After suffering consecutive Premier League losses home and away to Ubon and Chiangrai respectively, Pattaya United got back to winning ways last weekend with a convincing 4-2 victory over Bangkok Glass at the Nongrue Stadium on Saturday.
United’s nerves were settled as early as the second minute of the match when Dolphins’ defender Won-Young Lee stooped low in the opponents’ penalty area to guide a fine header into the corner of the Bangkok goal and give Pattaya a 1-0 lead.
The home team doubled their advantage in the 19th minute of the match through forward Chainarong Tathong who brought the ball down under pressure, cut inside a Bangkok defender and fired in a low shot that crept inside the near post of the visitors’ goal.
United continued to apply pressure to their opponents goal but it was Bangkok who struck next, just before half time, as Chimtalay latched onto an inswinging cross to head home.
It was a cruel blow to the Dolphins who had dominated for much of the opening 45 minutes, however they were not to be discouraged on this occasion and came out in the second half looking for more goals.
After the United keeper had produced a fine save to deny Bangkok an equalizing goal, the moment of the match and the decisive score came in the 55th minute when Pattaya midfielder Thongkruea stuck a thunderbolt shot from fully 30 yards out that whistled into the top corner of the Bangkok goal and sent the home fans into raptures.
The result was finally put out of doubt with 17 minutes to go as the Bangkok defence was caught off balance and Chamratsamee was left with the relatively simple task of rifling the ball into an unguarded goal.
United wasted further opportunities to extend their lead and Bangkok took advantage of the home team’s profligacy to pull a goal back in stoppage time through a superb left foot strike from Toti. By then however it was purely academic as the three points were already heading Pattaya’s way.
United currently sit in 14th position in the Premier League standings, five points above the relegation zone. The Dolphins’ next league game is away to Sukhothai FC on Sunday, May 29. Kick-off is scheduled for 7pm.
