The Thai distributor of Nivea skin-care products treated 50 children to a day at the beach to hype its sunscreen product.
Chatasri Jaruchet, general manager for the Nivea Sun line manufactured by Germany’s Beiersdorf AG, hosted children from the Father Ray Foundation, led by Rev. Peter Pattarapong Srivorakul, president of the organization.
The kids enjoyed a dip in the sea, various organized activities on the sand and everyone joined in to collect trash off the beach.
No fee was charged for the day, but the price of admission was sitting through a marketing presentation for Nivea Sun Protect and Refresh Body Lotion 50 PA+.
Chatasri used an ultraviolent light camera to show how the crème acts a shield for the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. She explained that UVB makes skin darker – which most Thais seem to hate – but UVA is more damaging and can cause skin cancer.
She told the kids they should always apply a sunscreen with a sun-protection factor of at least 50 and reapply it frequently.
Chatasri said some people don’t use sunscreen because they likely don’t understand what effects that ultraviolet rays have on their skin. Nivea organizes beach outings and does other things, such as donating beach umbrellas to Pattaya in February, to raise awareness.
