On the afternoon of 23 June we lost a good friend when Murray “Muffy” Kerr tragically succumbed to injuries from a motorcycle accident in Ban Chang while returning home from a ride with some friends.
Murry was born in Listowel, Ontario. He grew up in Canada between Ontario and Alberta and began his international oilfield career in 1990 in Kuwait helping to put out the oil fires that Sadam Hussein set after the 1st Gulf War. He continued working in the oil & gas sector offshore Brunei, then Oman where he changed from the rig side to the service side as a directional driller with Baker Hughes. He later moved to Sperry Sun & eventually Halliburton. Murray then changed to well site supervision, first in Australia & later in Sudan.
Widely respected in his field and by co-workers, one could say he was in the top 1% of the world’s skilled oil people.
Murray found Thailand around 1990 and has called Pattaya his home ever since. He met and married his wife Urairat (Mamo) and they had 2 sons together, Jason, 22, and Ty, 19. Murray was an avid golfer and was active with the Jackalope Charity Golf Tournament every year. He was also a member of the Jesters MC and involved with their charity work with the Care 4 Kids charity that the Jesters have supported for so many years.
“Muffy” was one of the original characters, liked by all. A devoted husband and a proud, loving father, he left an indelible impression on nearly everyone he met. Friendly, open and approachable he was non-judgmental of anyone he met.
An avid golfer, he passed this on to his sons Jason and Ty whom are both attending Universities in North America. Murray was also an avid Maple Leafs fan.
He is survived by his loving wife Mamo, his two sons, his parents James and Jean-Anne Kerr, and brothers John, Allen, Tom and Kevin.
Murray was known and loved by all who knew him and will be sorely missed by the local community.
