Tourists are being warned to take extra care on Jomtien Beach, which is seeing an influx of tiny jellyfish wash ashore.

Authorities were called June 24 after thousands of the juvenile tube jellyfish littered two kilometers of beach. Clear and tiny, the invertebrates still pack a painful punch for anyone that steps on them.

Beach vendor Somchai Jaisandee, 30, said jellyfish are common this time of year, both in the water and on the sand. The early summer months are a prime breeding season.

He said he warned tourists, but many didn’t listen and came out of the water with painful stings.

Beach safety officer Surasan Kwandee said signs have been posted to warn beachgoers.
