On Monday the TRGG visited St Andrews golf course which rightly has the reputation as one of the toughest challenges in the area, and on this day it inspired the field as many players shot good scores despite the conditions.

It is rare to mention any player who finishes outside of the top 3 but Peter Seil scored a fantastic 34 points.  This was remarkable as he was putting with his wedge after leaning on his putter on the 4th green and seeing it break.  Only a blob on the 18th stopped him shooting his handicap and the rest of his group looked on in envy at the quality of his short game.

Colin Smith did manage to shoot his handicap and this resulted in third place.  Neil Wilkinson is always difficult to beat around St Andrews as he has a really annoying habit of hitting the ball very straight.  On this occasion his 37 points were good enough to take second place.

But the winner of the day came from another annoying player in the shape of Jack Mooney whose golf appears to be getting better and better and there is nothing that Jack likes more than winning the day on count-back.  Annoying!

Tuesday, July 4, Pattaya C.C. – Stableford

1st Brian MacDonald (13) 37pts

2nd Colin Smith (20) 36pts

3rd Ted Senior (15) 34pts

On Tuesday the TRGG visited Pattaya Country Club for the first time in 6 months.  Ted Senior shot a good round of 34 points to take third place and Colin Smith achieved his second podium position in 2 days, scoring 36 points for the silver, but the day belonged to Brian MacDonald who shot 37 points off his 13 handicap and this was more than enough to walk away with the day’s top prize.

Wednesday, July 5, Bangpra – Stableford

1st Brian MacDonald (13) 35pts

2nd Guilan Liu (17) 34pts

3rd Ito Akitoshi (10) 33pts

Wednesday’s venue Bangpra is famous for the thieving gangs of monkeys that roam the golf course.  This tends to overshadow the fact that it is a difficult course and not many players achieve their handicap.

Ito Akitoshi managed to score 33 points from his 10 handicap to take third place and Guilan Liu continued with her fine form to take second with 34.  However, for the second time in 2 days Brian MacDonald came out on top of the field, this time with 35 points being good enough to take the honours.

Thursday, July 6, Laem Chabang – Stableford

1st Freddy Starbeck (14) 39pts

2nd Colin Smith (20) 33pts

3rd Alex Rousselis (23) 32pts

The TRGG visited the beautiful grounds of Laem Chabang Golf Course on Thursday.  With the course being a major attraction it was of no surprise that the day attracted a hefty field of golfers.

Alex Rousselis, playing his first round with the society, shot a healthy 32 points to claim third place while Colin Smith’s week of near misses continued as his 33 points was only good enough for second position.

The winner of the day by a comfortable margin was Freddy Starbeck with 39 points.  It takes a big personality to set the field alight at Laem Chabang and they don’t come much bigger than the ex-Danish firefighter.  Freddy claimed at the end of the day that playing Laem Chabang was hard but not as tough as trying to buy six Harley Davidsons in a week.

Friday,. July 7, Burapha – Stableford

1st Colin Smith (20) 38pts

2nd Seil Peter (9) 36pts

3rd Darren Stanton (17) 36pts

Burapha always attracts the big hitters in the golf society and Friday was no exception.  With wide open fairways available to the players it was no surprise that the big hitting ‘Dazzling’ Darren Stanton (longer than Freddy) claimed third spot with 36 points.

Seil Peter, with new putter in hand, also shot 36 points and a better back 9 did enough to take second position.  Seil is currently patenting a new golf shot which will be known as the “Yip drive”, and despite the longevity of the experience, one must see it!

The day belonged to the “nearly man” Colin Smith who, after coming close 3 times this week, totalled 38 points to walk away with the day’s top prize.
