Pattaya area officials and police donated daily necessities to soldiers deployed to Banglamung’s peace-maintenance force.
District Chief Naris Niramaiwong and Pattaya police chief Pol. Col. Apichai Kroppech led Banglamung Red Cross and other organizations to Photisampan Temple to hand out consumer products and other items the low-paid conscripts may not have been able to afford.
The National Council for Peace and Order stationed a 40-strong peace-maintenance force in Pattaya on Aug. 17, 2016, two months after taking over city administration from the elected city council when its term expired.
The army soldiers, from the 1st Infantry under the 21st Regiment Queen’s Guard, are tasked with preventing and suppressing anti-government protests and maintaining order.
Ten of the 40 soldiers are assigned to Koh Larn.
