Hundreds of sailors and Pattaya residents joined to pick up garbage and other debris from Pattaya Beach for HM the King’s birthday.

Cmdr. Supoj Petcharath of the Naval Recruit Training Center opened the July 26 cleanup that was led by Sanya Tabtimsri, Pattaya’s head of sewage management. Sailors, volunteers, beach vendors and members of the Friends Help Friends Club walked the beach scooping up rubbish, sharp rocks and natural debris washed ashore.

Organizers said the event was staged to honor HM the King on his 65th birthday and unify the people by doing good deeds together. It also helps raise awareness about environmental conservation, they said.
