Thailand is expecting a 7 percent increase in Indian tourists over the rest of this year and Pattaya tourism officials want them to come here.

Deputy Mayor Bandit Khunajak welcomed about 20 Indian tour operators to the TAT & TG West and South India table top sales event July 20 at the Avani Resort and Spa.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Mumbai office Director Sarota Homchuen brought the travel agents to Pattaya for the event to meet with his local counterpart, Suladda Sarutilavan.

She said arrivals from India this year have increased 10 percent year-on-year with more growth expected before year end, thanks to the Indian government’s particular interest in the Thai market.

TAT considers Indian tourists among their top 10 groups of “quality tourists” with lavish Indian-style weddings generating up to 10 million baht in revenue each.

Beach resorts in and around Pattaya are popular choices for weddings, private parties, honeymoons and more.

Thailand has responded to the demand by creating “wedding planner” packages available online.

Apart from Pattaya, Indian weddings are popular in Phuket, Hua Hin, Koh Samui and Khao Lak.
